I started playing around with integrating phpBB with PHPmotion last week, and funny enough a few people started asking about it on the forum so I decided to speed up my work
I’ve now finished the mod, which allows seamless integration between phpBB3 & PHPmotion v2. I’ve just got to complete testing then I’ll place a demo online for you all to see. Don’t forget to let me know what you think!

If you’ve been using PHPmotion v2 you’ll notice that it’s slow. No matter what your connection speed or who’s your host, I’ve never seen a default install load in under 10-15 seconds (for me the demo site takes 22.71 seconds according to this firefox plugin) that’s on 1mb adsl!
There are many reasons to this, huge css file (37KB), bulky code, javascript, etc… The solution? Optimization! For those of you who used the xhtml/css theme I recoded from the original templates for PHPmotion v1 you’ll remember the difference in load time & also how much easier it was to edit. I’ve decided to code up a new theme for PHPmotion v2, unlike with v1 this won’t be an optimized version of the original but an optimized completely new theme!
I’m not sure when they’ll be ready or if they’ll be free or not but one things sure, fast websites are better then slow ones so don’t forget to keep checking out for updates on the new theme!

The seo pack is now available I won’t go into great detail as it’s already explained here & here.
Hopefully I’ll be able to create some themes too as that’s another thing PHPmotion is really missing.

I’ve finally finished coding the mod & templates, I’ll be releasing the addon later today hopefully!
It’s still in beta but when you buy it there will be lifetime upgrades anyway so don’t worry
Currently the addon works with v2 rc1, it’ll be updated for newer versions of v2 if there are any.

I’m nearing completion on the update of the url rewrite mod I released for PHPmotion v1. Those who purchased that one will remember how much of a pain it was to install…
This one however is a breeze, hell if you can’t set it up you shouldn’t be on the internet
. I’ve put a demo online here: seo PHPmotion.
You won’t have to change any code in the default files! Talk about not messing up future upgrades
basically the installation goes like this:
- Upload to addons folder
- Upload template files (if you’ve changed yours you will have to modify them)
- Add 1 line of code to config.inc.php
- Upload the .htaccess file in your root installation
- Enjoy! (or play around with all the cool settings!)
I will probably allow a few lucky phpmotioners to download a free copy to help test it but everyone else will have to wait until it’s up for sale
The only possible downside is those who have made huge changes to the template files will have to do them again or apply the changes to them. If you don’t want to do all the changes you can still benefit from custom titles, keywords & descriptions on different pages by doing 1 easy edit in main_1.htm so it’s still a huge plus for search engines!

I’m getting started on version 2 of the seo mod which I originally created for PHPmotion v1. Unfortunately v2 of PHPmotion has no better seo then the first release but that will all change once I release this mod!
The original mod only handled the links for videos, groups, users & categories. Here’s a quick list of what v2 will do, let me know what you think
- Link rewrite for users, videos, audio, categories, groups…
- Custom meta tags for categories, videos and pretty much all pages!
- Super easy to install! (only 1 line to add)
There’s plenty more features but I’d better get busy making the addon rather then talking about it
Whilst there’s only 1 line to add to the actual script, there are many changes made to the template files these will all be provided but if you intend buying the mod you’re probably better off waiting until you’ve got it installed before editing your current site theme.
